HomeBlogSilver Moon's HOPpopotamus: A Fresh Hop Beast!
September 07, 2014
Fresh hop season is upon us, and Silver Moon Brewing is unleashing the beast of fresh hop brews... HOPpopotamus Fresh Hop IPA! I was able to get myself and my camera into the action... and there was sure a lot of action! The only thing missing in this article is the smell... but you can imagine how beautiful the aroma was on this day.
Silver Moon owners James Watts and Matt Barrett had been on the road all night and all morning, filling their vehicle with boxes and boxes of hops from Crosby Hop Farm, and transporting them back to Bend in time for them to be dumped into HOPpopotamus.
Aaron Hofferber and Alex Parmegano... Silver Moon's mad scientists, invited some local brewers and homebrewers to join in on the brew. The brewery was in great spirits and the smell of hops permeated the entire place! It was great to see the comradery and pure love for brewing from these brew gentlemen. They made me feel like one of them, and I had full access to take my camera anywhere and everywhere.
After my time in the brewery, I went into the taproom for a Hop Nob and some food. I had filled a pint glass with fresh hops, and was taking more photos of these lovely lupulin loaded cones. I threw a couple into my Hop Nob for a photo, and the flavor was out of this World! While enjoying my Hop Nob with hops on top, I met an awesome couple from Australia named Anna and Billy. They are travelling by bicycle from Alaska to California, stopping at breweries along the way. You can follow them along their journey at Bike 2 Brewery. 3 months in, they stopped at Silver Moon, their first stop in Bend. I gave them a few hops to smell and play with. They told me of their travels and I begged them to take me with them! I forgot to snap a photo of them, but I did get a shot with their bikes in the background. Safe travels Anna and Billy!
Thanks to James, Matt, Aaron and Alex for including me in your fresh hop brew. You guys have treated my family like your family, and we look forward to every visit to the Moon! Cheers!
